Since
1949, American Red Cross Blood Services has served this area
24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing blood in times of
crisis, in times of emergency and in times of necessity.
Over the years we've grown and added new technologies and
services to support our commitment to patients in need, their
families and friends. In fact, we currently provide hospital
customers with approximately five dozen blood products and
related services. Our current regional collection goal is
250,083 units of blood annually. In the next ten years, this
goal is predicted to grow to 305,000 units annually.

When your local American Red Cross Blood Services opened in 1949, our entire operation could fit into a one-family home.
Today, we've grown into the Greater Alleghenies Region, serving donors and patients in 100 hospitals across six states. |

At 38,000 square
feet, our current headquarters is woefully inadequate to meet the
needs of a growing region. Indeed, so acute are our headquarters
shortcomings that the American Red Cross national headquarters identified
the Greater Alleghenies Region as one of two blood regions at the
top of the list for new facilities as part of its 10-year development
plan that will result in the construction or renovation of more
than a dozen facilities.
